Designing Back to School Spaces

Designing Back to School Spaces

I was walking through Target (my happy place) the other day and was kind of surprised that they had designated a significant portion of the home section to back to school for college students. The more I thought about it, after the past year and a half, it seems like who more than ever deserves to get excited about starting school again and all that comes with it?

My First Places

My college dorm rooms and apartments were my first experiments in defining my decorating style. Senior year my roommates and I drove three hours to the nearest IKEA, took that hand-m-down sofa, and pulled it all together with one of my mom’s murals. I’ll spare you the details, but looking back the same themes I use in my designs today are there: art, color and pattern.

New Year, New Spaces

Back to school means new experiences and new opportunities. I love this time of year and am excited for students at any age. My oldest just started Kindergarten so getting ready for school for him is new shoes, backpack and uniform (eek!). Graduating from dorms to your first apartment is one of the most fun transitions, you get the opportunity to express your personality and style through decorating.

Decorating Cheat Sheet

Between classes, practice, rush, work, group projects, and, oh yeah, eating and sleeping, there’s not much time left to source that perfect sofa and rug.

Too many choices and you don’t know where to start? I created Shop the Style rooms to make it easy to get the designer look in one simple package, pulling together all my favorite pieces and sources into shoppable lists.

Shop the Style rooms are great for getting a designer look at retail prices (or even better when possible!) You receive a source list of all items shown on the Design Board with links for you to purchase AND instructions on how to make it work.

My First Place

You are looking at your first place and thinking, “I want everything to look cohesive and pulled together, but I don’t know where to shop.”

Check out Shop the Style rooms and let’s get you started on styling your first place.
