Closet Of Life
Can a closet be a metaphor for life? Maybe not for everyone, but the past year has seen some substantial changes for the better in both my life and my closet. Hear me out.
Phase 1 // New House, New Priorities
We bought a big house with a lot of bedrooms and no kids. We fell in love with the neighborhood, knew we wanted to fill a few bedrooms with kids, and focused on quick fixes like a kitchen facelift, paint, and floors. Everything was exciting and new and the rest we could live with.
Phase 2 // Just Throw Everything In There
These were the only photos I could find of our closet, dating back to 2017. I just kind of made do with what we had…wire shelving that couldn’t hold more than one sweater, mismatched dressers and hanging racks that were buckling from too many clothes. This was about when we had a baby and a two year old and keeping humans alive was higher on the list than finding a home for my t-shirts. I think these photos represent where my brain was at in 2017.
Phase 3 // Demo!
Much like the wire shelving I ripped out of the ceiling, in 2019 I left legal marketing and found myself with no supports. The particle board got ripped off the walls, everything got a coat of new paint, and I could see that this was going to be the fresh start I never knew I needed.
Phase 4 // Everything Has A Place
I spent the past year evaluating everything in my life, tossing what didn’t serve me and finding a place to showcase the things I love. That process led me to launching Sarah Bowman Spaces, where I get to work with the best home staging and design clients and friends. My shoes and bags are off the floor, everything is organized in ROYGBIV order, and working on finishing the closet helped me find my purpose.
Everything I could find to link to:
Watercolor rug, Dresser, Baskets, Runners, Bench (mine is from TJ Maxx, this one is similar), Elfa Closet System, Light
